Achieving A White Smile

Posted on: 28 March 2016

If you would like to achieve a whiter smile, then you may be able to get that smile by going to a dentist for a tooth whitening treatment. It's advisable to go to the dentist instead of using over the counter products because the dentist can tailor the treatment to your specific needs and they use better products. If you have discolored teeth for other reasons than regular staining, like genetic issues, medications or thin enamel, then you may need to go with other treatments, such as the ones suggested in this article.

  1. Removable veneers: Removable veneers are made in a lab by using an impression of your teeth to create one piece coverings for both your top and bottom teeth. If you have a fear of having extensive dental work done or you happen to be on a tight budget, then this option is one that could work out well for you. While you will only get to enjoy whiter teeth while you are wearing the removable veneers, they do make it possible for you to enjoy a bright smile in photographs, feel more confident when giving public speeches and when you are in other situations where you feel compelled to wear them.
  2. Porcelain veneers: You can also get porcelain veneers that are permanently placed on your teeth. Generally, you only need to have them put on the teeth that are in your direct smile line when you get them for cosmetic purposes. Your real teeth will be taken down in size so they can be put on them and they will be made to look natural. Once they are put in place and you get used to them, they feel like real teeth. Porcelain veneers cost quite a bit more than the removable ones, but they give you a permanent solution to your teeth whitening needs. Since you care for them just as you would your normal teeth, they add no extra time or effort to your oral hygiene routine. You also need to keep in mind that porcelain veneers can stain just like your natural teeth can. This means you still want to be careful that you don't consume a lot of teeth staining foods like tea and pasta sauce.
  3. Porcelain inlays for cavities: Now, if you have cavities and you are looking for a way to keep your teeth looking white, then you want to go with porcelain inlays. These are done by putting porcelain composite into your cavities instead of using the regular silver filling that's obvious. For more information about porcelain inlays, visit Dr. David K. Skeels.

The best thing you can do for your teeth is to be sure to take regular care of them, don't eat hard foods that can break them and always make it in for your regular dental exams. This way, they will stay healthier and you will continue to have options available to you without the dentist needing to worry about other issues like cavities and gum disease.
